How Does Nutrition Help Bringing Positive Change in Child Behavior

There is a direct link with right food choices and child behavior. Normally we can notice that when a child is not properly nourished, he/she cannot perform well in physical or mental tasks at school or home. Nutrition play an important role in not only physical or mental growth of a child but in child’s behavior as well. This post provides facts and statistics proving that nutrition can help bring positive change regarding child behavior.

Experts have discovered that food can ramp-up children’s behavior. Now recent research and studies have proved that foods and ingredients can, indeed, make a difference. It makes perfect sense that what kids eat affects their behavior. It is well established that poor nutritional intake and deficiencies in zinc, iron, B vitamins and protein can impair brain function and lead to violence and antisocial behavior in children. Nutritional deficiencies, including zinc, magnesium, calcium and essential fatty acids, as well as carbohydrate cravings, have also been noted in children with attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (AD/HD).

How to Keep Your Eyes Safe and Healthy Using Contact Lenses?

Approximately 6% of contact lens wearers per year will develop some problem associated with their use, although the majority of these problems will be fairly minor. Use of contact lenses as an alternative of glasses is not safe and there are some risk factors involved we can still keep our eyes safe and healthy by getting knowledge of basic care, risk factors and precaution. This post is written to bring an awareness for contact lens wearers about the problems we can face due to some reasons and how we can keep our eyes healthy.

Contact lenses have provided an excellent alternative to glasses for correction of refractive errors. However, contact lens use is not without risk, and the potential for vision threatening problems is present. The wearing of contact lenses causes changes in the cornea in terms of structure, turnover, tear production and oxygen and carbon dioxide levels. These changes in themselves can produce problems and may also exacerbate pre-existing conditions.

Contact lens related problems may be associated with the type of lens used (e.g. soft, rigid, gas permeable), the frequency with which the lenses are changed, the cleaning systems used for the lenses as well as wearer related factors. The range of problems which may occur include minor problems from inadequate rinsing to loss of vision as a result of microbial keratitis.

How to select the sitting chair to help you get positive posture?

I use desktop usually at home or at school and due to negative sitting posture I was suffering from shoulder and back pain for long, until I realized that something was wrong with my chair and sitting position. I searched the net to look for information and suggestions for this purpose and I was happy to find the stuff.
Right now I am using an ergonomic chair while I am following the positive posture techniques to get relief from back pain. I have collected the relevant information at this post for my blog readers. Now in this post I want you to suggest and offer tips to select the sitting chair which can help you get the most suitable position to reduce shoulder/back pain.

Positive sitting posture means the proper way to sit at a chair while working beside the table. In my previous post I have mentioned some causes for should and back pain associated with negative sitting posture:
Link How bad sitting posture causes shoulder and back pain?

Sitting posture is an important factor in both your health and performance in the workplace. One of the main factors identified as causing an increase in back problems is computer and gaming use. A New Zealand study found that workers who spent an inordinate amount of time sitting at their desks were at a higher risk of developing deep vein thombrosis (DVT). Workers who used computers while sitting were at an even high risk.

The best way to reduce pressure in the back is to be in a standing position. However, there are times when you need to sit. When sitting, the main part of the body weight is transferred to the seat. Some weight is also transferred to the floor, back rest, and armrests. Where the weight is transferred is the key to a good seat design. When the proper areas are not supported, sitting in a seat all day can put unwanted pressure on the back causing pain. By selecting a sitting chair which is designed on the basis of ergonomics can help you get the positive posture and reduce the risk of shoulder and back pain.

  • A chair that allows you to take an upright seating posture. The angle between your upper and lower legs should be about 90 degrees and your feet should be resting (flat) on the floor.
  • It should also have a sturdy frame , a great deal of support, especially in the lumbar region, and padding that has some give and supports your body without losing shape.
  • It help increase back and neck support to help improve posture and prevent slouching.
  • The seat should have enough width and depth to support user comfortably. The depth (from front to back of the seat) needs to be enough so that the user can sit with his or her back against the backrest of the chair while leaving approximately 2 to 4 inches between the back of the knees and the seat of the chair. The forward or backward tilt of the seat should be adjustable.
The material on the seat and back of the chair should have enough padding to be comfortable to sit on for extended periods of time.
  • Lower back support in a chair is very important. The lumbar spine has an inward curve, and sitting for long periods without support for this curve tends to lead to slouching (which flattens the natural curve) and strains the structures in the lower spine.
  • The backrest of an ergonomic office chair should be 12 to 19 inches wide. It should be able to support the natural curve of the spine, again with special attention paid to proper support of the lumbar region.
  • The height of the backrest should be adjustable.
  • The backrest should be adjustable for movement backwards or forwards.
  • The chair should have capacity for 360 degree swivel.
  • The height of the seat should be adjustable.
  • The seat should have a non-slip surface.
  • Make sure the adjustable levers are not in a position where they might interfere with daily work.

How bad sitting posture causes shoulder and back pain?

You need to learn the correct posture to avoid pain around your shoulders and back. Negative sitting posture is the killer of health, your spine will becomes the biggest victim.

One of the main factors identified as causing an increase in back problems is computer and gaming use. This is because many people, particularly when at home, do not use a suitable chair when operating these devices. This means that they will probably adopt an unsuitable posture and have their head at the wrong height, level and distance from any monitor or screen that they use.

Often, people using laptops or playing games will sit on an easy chair or even the floor. This is never healthy for these kinds of activities and if the person is operating a laptop that is literally on their lap, the shape of their back and spine and the way in which it is supported will be detrimental to their health.

Are you sitting right?

More than 80% of people have experience lumbago and overall back pain before, mostly caused by negative sitting posture.

Various studies show that the office staff suffer a number of occupational diseases, and the main one is a back pain.

How wrong posture is responsible for pain in back and waist?

A wrong sitting pose is one of the most frequent cause of pain in a back and waists.

Office worker spends at his desk more than 80000 hours of his life. However, many people sit with hunched backs. While this posture is easy to maintain for a very long time because of the minimal muscle tension, it is most damaging for the body. The load, which do not taken by muscles, is immediately transmitted to the spine.

As a result, the stress caused by the sitting too long in the wrong position, creating pressure on the intervertebral discs and constrained supply the muscles with blood. In addition, it can break down the entire metabolism in general, causing circulatory and gastrointestinal disorders, insufficient blood supply to the legs.

Solution

Instead of sitting forward in your chair, move your hip all the way to the back of the chair. Lean slightly back in comfort. If the chair back is rounded, put a small soft cushion in the space between your low back and the chair, to preserve healthy normal back posture instead of assuming the curved posture of the chair.

Buying an ergonomic chair is another solution of your neck, shoulder and back pain. Ergonomics is the study of equipment designed with humans in mind, meant to reduce operator fatigue and discomfort. So ergonomic chair helps increase back and neck support to improve posture and prevents slouching.

How to get relieve from nausea applying acupressure therapy?

Nausea, with or without vomiting, is a miserable feeling. There are many condition when you can feel vomiting like as motion sickness, morning sickness, cancer treatments, and surgery anesthesia etc.

There are numerous causes of nausea and vomiting. But treating nausea means fixing the cause of the nausea. Nausea and vomiting are symptoms of an underlying disease and not a specific illness. Nausea is the sensation that the stomach wants to empty itself, while vomiting (emesis) or throwing up, is the act of forcible emptying of the stomach.

Vomiting is a violent act in which the stomach has to overcome the pressures that are normally in place to keep food and secretions within the stomach. The stomach almost turns itself inside out - forcing itself into the lower portion of the esophagus (the tube that connects the mouth to the stomach) during a vomiting episode.

Practitioners of Chinese medicine techniques have long used stimulation of points on the wrists through acupuncture or acupressure to relieve nausea.

How to find acupressure point and start pressing it?
  • Take your index finger and middle finger and place them on your wrist at the base of your palm to measure where your nausea acupressure point is. Find your acupressure point -- two or three finger widths down from the top crease in the wrist, centered in the groove between the two large tendons. This is known as the P6 point (or "inner gate").
  • Take your thumb and index or middle finger and press firmly on the points on both sides of the wrist when you feel nauseous. You should feel relief in 10-30 seconds. Sometimes, however, it can take up to five minutes.
  • Tap your wrists together gently at the acupressure points while taking deep breaths. You can alternate with tapping the outsides of your hands together.

Get a wristband that applies pressure to the correct spot. They usually have a knob or flat button positioned over the acupressure point. You might feel relief as soon as you put it on, but after your body grows accustomed to the pressure, you'll need to press down on the acupressure point for extra relief.

Medical scientists don’t know for sure how acupressure wristbands relieve nausea and vomiting. But the theories they have so far point to two possible explanations of how BioBands works -- The first is that using an acupressure wristband interrupts the nervous system signals that bring about nausea symptoms in the body. The second is that continual pressure to the P-6 acupressure points causes the release of endorphins, neurotransmitters that act as a natural painkiller within the body.

Wristband applies continuous acupressure to the P-6 acupressure point at the wrist to relieve nausea and vomiting from motion sickness, morning sickness, cancer treatments, and surgery anesthesia.

"The idea is to use it before you start vomiting," says acupuncturist Joseph M. Helms, M.D. Apply pressure to the webbing between your thumb and index finger on either hand. Use firm, deep pressure and a rapid massaging movement for several minutes, he says.

Using the same kind of motion and pressure, Dr. Helms says, rub with your thumb or thumbnail on the top of your foot between the tendons of the second and third toes. With any luck, your nausea will pass after a few minutes.

Acupressure therapy for toothache

Acrpressure is a proven therapy for pain relief. Every one of us some experience of toothace and severety of this ailment. Acupressure offers a good relief from pain due to any complication related to teeth or gums.

I practiced this therapy to one of my students (5 year old) who complained a severe pain in her teeth. I asked which tooth was hurting her? I hold the opposite side palm and pressed the finger tip relevant to the teech position for some time and started talking with her. After a few minutes my students said that she is now better and doesn't need to go back home. Second time my son suffered from severe toothache and I tried the acupressure treatment for relief by applying pressure on relevant finger. After half an hour he could go to sleep after relief from pain.

There are times when you need to use painkillers for the toothache, but if you have a good knowledge of accupressure, you can apply the skill yourself to get rid of discomfort until you get an appointment to a dentist.

Acupressure points to relieve tootache:

Point 1 : This is on the right foot. This point is located on the line starting from the intersection of second and third fingers and going till the middle of the ankle joint. From the intersection of the fingers it is located one inch above. Press this point for 3 minutes.

Point 2 : This point is on the right hand. It is located on the joint of the index finger and the thumb near the wrist. Press this point for 3 minutes.

Point 3 : Clench your teeth. On the right jaw below the right ear the jaw muscle will come out prominently. Press this point for 3 minutes.

Point 4 : This point is on the tip of the toes on the foot. If the pain is on the right side press the toe tips of the right foot and if it is on the left foot then press the toe tips on the left foot. Press the all the toe tips for around 3 minutes.

Point 5 : This point is tips of the fingers on the hand. Select the hand on based on the side where you have pain similar to previous Point 4. Press all the finger tips for a total of 3 minutes.

You can repeat it after 1 or 2 hours if needed.

Note: Remember that for pain relief you need to press the point for few minutes ss you need an anaesthetic effect) it is different from pressing the point with intervals in normal therapy sessions.

I have drawn the facing picture, and it shows the finger tip points relevant to the tooth you have problem. Pressing the finger tips for few minutes is a definite relief from tootache.
