You can cultivate your ability to heal yourself!

Self growth, self improvement and self help are the main topics of this blog, and there are a lot of helpful studies, researches, articles which teach you to lead a healthy, meaningful and improved life style. I do believe that healing is from your inside, and everyone has those healing abilities, to cure oneself.

Here is an article from “The Healing Mind”, by Dr. Martin Rossman, who has over 35 years of experience in the field of imagery for self healing.

“It’s just common sense that it is the body’s natural healing abilities more than medicine that causes us to heal. A surgeon may stitch the edges of the skin together but it is the body’s response that heals the wound. A physician can prescribe antibiotics for an infection, but without an effective immune response, the patient will not recover. Healing is an innate property of life, and learning to support that property is critical to a truly good medicine.

A Tale of Two Gardeners

When my first daughter was a year old, we moved to a new home. In the back of the house, adjacent to her room, were half a dozen plants that were obviously in poor condition. The stems were virtually bare of leaves, and those that remained were curled, browned and discolored. There were no flowers or buds. I am not much of a plant person, but even I could tell that these plants were not doing well.
I called a gardener. A leather-skinned old fellow, he looked at the plants for less than a minute and told me that they were infested and diseased. He then recommended treating them with strong pesticides. The plants were right around our daughter's room and I wondered if the pesticides might be toxic.

Concerned about the potential risks of this approach, I got a second opinion from an organic gardener, a pleasant young man who carefully examined the plants and their environment. He agreed completely with the first gardener about the infestation, but his treatment plan differed markedly. He said, "You know, these plants haven't been looked after for some time, and they are pretty sick. If they were healthy, they would naturally resist these infections. We might have to use some pesticides, but first, let's give them some help and see what they can do on their own." He then showed me how to prune the deadwood, aerate the soil, fertilize the plants, and get them on a regular watering schedule. He cut the plants down to the ground so they wouldn't be putting energy into non-productive growth. I was amazed that they could survive but he explained about roots, "There's as much of that plant underground as above ground and from those invisible roots the new growth will emerge if we nourish it properly." In the next few months, new shoots grew, and healthy leaves appeared. The next year, we had beautiful blossoms.

I use this story to illustrate two very different approaches to medicine and healing. One seeks to cooperate with, stimulate, and work with natural healing abilities, while the other goes to war with nature, and attempts to conquer her. Sometimes one works better than the other, sometimes both work, and sometimes neither. There is no reason that they need to be mutually exclusive, and there are many times over the past 30 years when I have worked with patients using both approaches side by side.

We have all been blessed with a mind that can evoke, understand, interact and cooperate with our natural ability to heal. The human mind can be our best friend and ally on our journey to healing.
Here’s a brief example: a young woman named Alexandra developed some breast lumps, and in spite of many assurances from very good doctors that they were benign, couldn’t stop worrying that they were malignant. With my guidance, she took few deep breaths, relaxed, and imagined that she could take her mind inside her breast. She invited an image to form that could tell her something useful about these lumps, and to accept and explore the image that came, whether or not it made immediate sense to her.

She reported that she saw a small stream, with a number of small stones partially obstructing the flow. As she looked more closely, she said that the stones actually looked like pearls, and began talking about how oysters formed pearls as a response to irritation, and that they were an attempt to protect the oyster from these irritations. She realized that she had been stressed and keeping a demanding schedule, and to keep up, she had been drinking more coffee, eating poorly, not resting enough, and feeling run down. She felt this was likely the cause of the lumps. She ended her guided imagery meditation with a feeling of appreciation for the wisdom of her body, and a sense that she could and would resolve these issues. As she reworked her schedule, balanced her attention between others and herself, ate better and eliminated coffee, the lumps went away.

Alexandra, and other people who stop to consider what their inner wisdom is telling them through their bodies, learn that the wisdom of nature is built into them, and that they can access it by getting quiet and inviting its guidance. Seen in this light, symptoms are just a way our inner wisdom gets our attention. By respecting your wisdom, asking for its guidance, and paying attention in the special way guided imagery provides, you will often find that illness can teach you about health and wellness. You learn that you can cultivate your ability to care for and learn from the healing nature that lies within you, and you can re-own your respect for the healing marvels that you truly are.

When a journalist devoted his life for a volunteer purpose!

This is a true story of a journalist who left his profession, fame, career and everything which was a milestone for his success, just for a cause.
He is not a doctor or a health practitioner, but he is providing research based alternative cure for all diseases. He has been deeply involved in spreading the nature cure system called acupressure, on volunteer basis.

It began about 5 years ago, when Sagar Sagir, a journalist
working for some leading newspaper agencies became sick. For a long time he was suffering from indigestion, but there was no sign of improvement. As he felt a severe pain in abdomen, and it prolonged for few hours. There was no evidence of any abnormality in his reports. He was tired of consulting all the leading practitioners of the country and listening the same words, “your reports are normal”

He decided to go to the neighboring country India, for treatment. There he was told to have ultrasound or x-ray, when he felt the pain. He waited there for the time, when the abdomen pain would occur, and during his stay, he went to a bookstore. Just looking around he saw a book with the title “Health in your hands”, it was about shiatsu or acupressure.

From few years, he was thinking seriously about his sickness, and his questions were, why we become sick, how to cure from it and is there any prevention from the illness. He asked these questions to some doctors, but there were no satisfactory answers. Having a look at few pages of the book, he asked the shopkeeper, “Are these kinds of books effective? ------Is there any reality in what is said in this book?”

Shopkeeper asked him to show his hand and after pressing at some points asked him,” Are you suffering from serious abdomen problem?” Sagar watched surprisingly towards the book seller, as leading practitioners, modern diagnostic methods were applied to diagnose his ailment. But a person without any tool, any degree could tell the same diagnoses result by examining his hands. The shopkeeper suggested him to read the book, implement it and said that this book is enough for cure of any disease.

Sagar decided to leave for his home land without taking any treatment. He came back and started treating his sickness according the rules and techniques told in the book, and it is now 5 years, he never looked back again. Not only he could cure himself, his only daughter, who was suffering from chronic asthma was also cured by this treatment. He got training courses from the author of that book, directly going to Mumbai and Calcutta. He decided to do something on volunteer basis for humanity. His aim is to spread this therapy as a self help system, and take the benefits of nature cure.

Right now he has established a research and diagnostic center, where at a time; people are diagnosed, given acupressure therapy from a trained staff of about 35 persons. The main purpose of this centre is to train everyone to learn these techniques to cure one selves, and the fee is very nominal, only enough to cover salaries of the staff.

I asked Sagar about the success rate for ailment cure and prevention. He told me that most of the suffering persons come here with serious problems, which were partially or not cured from ordinary medial procedures. The success rate of curing chronic and prolonged diseases when having therapy at the centre was around 70% to 80% or more. Number of persons consulting the centre is about 35 to 40, among which most of the people get the therapy training and do it at their own. Patients coming to the centre are between the ages of 20 to 40 years.
Institutionally this is the first establishment at Bangladesh, where ancient acupressure therapy is successfully applied with the aim that everybody should learn this wonderful way to heal their selves.

You can get more information at search engines, and may be getting helpful books could give you some knowledge of this therapy which is very easy to apply, as you need nothing for diagnosis or treating yourself. Your fingers or thumbs are the best tools for use in this therapy. This therapy has no side effects, so it is harmless.

But a few more things are to be noticed. When you are going to use this natural system of healing yourself, you should also take some measure about your diet, eating habits. And most of all you should have some positive attitude to increase the speed of your cure towards health and longevity.

Sagar was emphasizing on the fact that Islam is a nature based religion, and if Muslims follow the simple manners, rules and regulation according to their religious teachings, this therapy can do miracles for them.

Here are few guidelines for prevention of illness:

1- Come close to nature. These therapies help nature to cure us, so be helpful in following rules of nature to get cured.

2- Be tension free. Depression, anxiety or tension is the base of very critical and chronic diseases.

3- In this fast age, we eat in a hurry and it has become our routine. Chewing our every bite properly and slowly can prevent us from many diseases, i.e diabetes is one of them.

Use of electronic and digital products causing health problems

Use of electronic products is enormously increasing, but as research is showing there are some bad effects of regular use of these products. I am quoting here 2 reports about the use of laptop and mobile phones, as these are the favorites of young generation.

I just want you to bring awareness about  risk involved at frequent use of these useful devices.

According to report "Dr. Yefim Sheynkin, an associate professor of urology at SUNY--Stony Brook told Reuters, "the increase in scrotal temperature is significant enough to cause changes in sperm parameters. It is very difficult to predict how long the computer can be used safely. It may not be at all, if the testicular temperature goes up high within a very short period of time."

Particularly at risk, says Sheynkin, are younger men, especially if they use a laptop computer several times a day over the course of time. "Long-term use may have a detrimental effect on their reproductive health," he said.
To arrive at these conclusions, Sheynkin recruited 29 healthy volunteers between the ages of 21 and 35 to determine what kind of effect using a laptop computer had on scrotal temperature.
The volunteers’ scrotal temperatures rose over two degrees centigrade when the laptop computers were merely placed on the volunteers’ laps. Once the laptop computers were turned on, the scrotal temperatures increased by 2.6 degrees C on the left side and 2.8 degrees C on the right side.

2nd report is about health risks due to radiation from mobile phones.

Eurobarometer, a programme within the EU took opinions from across the EU. Of Britons, 65 percent believed that mobile phones affected their health and 71 percent felt that mobile phone masts affected their health. The European results were73 percent and 76 percent.

For over 10 years, a Scandinavian study has been checking for health risks connected to mobile phone use. They report that there is an increase in the chance of getting brain tumors and that radiation from mobiles can kill brain cells, which could mean that the youth may develop senile symptoms by the time they are forty."

So these reports are indication of the risk involed in long term use of all electrical devices, which produce radiation. This radiation is very harmful, and if we cannot avoid the use of these products, we can limit the use to our extreme needs.

Teens are also at risk , because they don't think about limitations or boundaries when they use these digital products. In this condition moderate use is the safest option for all of us.

Prefer organic foods to keep you healthy

Fertilizers are used to feed the plant, but as a result plant cannot create more "favonoid". Increased fruit and vegetable intake keeps you safe from cardiovascular diseases.

Flavonoids are antioxidants and are believed to help protect from demetia and some kind of cancer. And another big benefit is to resuce blood pressure.

According to a ten years study from the Universtiy of California, Dr. Alyson Mitchell and her team found that organically grown tomatoes contained twice as many flavonoids, as compare to regularly produced tomatoes. And in this experiment no fertilizers were used to feed the plant.

Resource:
Organic keeps your heart healthier

Richard Wilde from the The Environmental Working Group in Washington suggested buying organically grown apples and other susceptible fruits to reduce the effect. He also added: "Eat your fruits and vegetables, just like your mom told you---but just try and do so in a way that lowers the potential number of pesticides."

A recent study at Cornell University has produced results that the apple peel contains several compounds that when they work in unison actually has cancer inhibiting properties and can even kill cancer cells.
Despite the proven fact of apple peels nutrient content the same peel also contains a large amount of pesticides; up to 12 varieties, A few of the pesticides are toxic and are not all removed by washing the apple.

So eat a lot of fruits/vegetables but try to get organic, as it can provide you nutrition value and protects you from diseased.

Know your Biorhythms, for self growth and self help

It was only fun when I used this free software to check if it can help me anyway. I was fascinated by the degree of accuracy, as it provided me the information about bad days during this month. I was regularly meditating, but still felt sick and my energy level was going down, without any reason.

I checked my biorhythm chart, and it was clearly showing my low level of my physical and emotional condition. Then I started browsing the web to get more information about biorhythm and its effectiveness. I want my knowledge to share it with you, as I think that it can help us know the full potential of our capabilities.

Biorhythm is a powerful tool that helps you to calculate your biorhythm cycles so you can plan accordingly to achieve maximum efficiency and get ready for the next days of our life.

First let's get some information about "Biorhythm"

"Bio" pertains to life and "rhythm" means the flow with regular movement.
Biorhythms are inherent cycles that affect you physically, emotionally and intellectually. They regulate metabolism, coordination, emotions, memory, sexuality, creativity etc.

As each of your biorhythm cycles show ups and downs, so does your ability to perform certain tasks, physical activities, deal with stress, and make sound decisions. Getting knowledge of our positive biorhythm cycle can assisst us in planning sporting activities, participate in public events and a lot more. And the same way when we check negative cycle at our chart, it is time to get ready for hurtful situations, grief, stress, possible accidents, etc.

History of Biorhythm:

* About 3000 years ago, the scientists of ancient Greece were recording the regular rhythms of basic bodily functions such as respiration, kidney activity, pulse rate and, the female menstrual cycle. These rhythmic cycles affect even the tiniest cells of our organism from the day we are born to the day we die.

* Hermanna Swoboda a professor of psychology at the University of Vienna, published this paper in 1900 - "Life is subject to consistent changes. This understanding does not refer to changes in our destiny or to changes that take place in the course of life. Even if someone lived a life entirely free of outside forces, of anything that could alter his mental and physical state, still his life would not be identical from day to day. The best of physical health does not prevent us from feeling ill sometimes, or less happy then usual."
He also observed that new mothers began to show anxiety about their infants whenever a critical day occurred or was about to occur. He collected data on reaction to pain, outbreak of fevers, illnesses, asthma, heart attacks, and recurrent dreams. He concluded that there was a 23-day physical cycle and a 28-day emotional cycle.

* Dr.Wilhelm Fliess a nose and throat specialist and a numerologist in Berlin, proved cellular bisexuality through his research of Biorhythms, realizing that both men and women had an emotional cycle that was the same. He stated that Women are more influenced by the emotional cycle and men are more affected by the physical cycle.
Our regular four biorhythm cycles of physical, intellectual, emotional and intuitional all work together to regulate our physical and mental abilities and well being.

* Alfred Teltscher, professor of engineering at the University of Innsbruck, observed that his students' good days and bad days followed a rhythmic pattern of 33 days. Teltscher found that the brain's ability to absorb, mental ability, and alertness ran in 33 day cycles. In the 1920s, Dr. Rexford Hersey (psychologist; Pennsylvania, America) also reportedly made contributions to the classical theory.

Application of biorhythm:

The theory has been applied in the past to accident prevention. Many companies have studied biorhythms and their effects on airline pilots and athletic teams.

In the workplace, railroads and airlines have experimented the most with biorhythms. A pilot describes the Japanese and American attitudes towards biorhythms. He acknowledges, researching his pilot logbook, that his greatest errors of judgment occurred during critical days, but concludes that an awareness of one's critical days and paying extra attention is sufficient to ensure safety. A former United Airlines pilot and user of the Biorhythms for Windows program confirms that United Airlines used biorhythms until the mid-1990s.
Charting biorhythms for personal use was popular in the United States during the 1970s; many places (especially video arcades and amusement areas) had a biorhythm machine that provided charts upon entry of date of birth.

Scientific background behind the biorhthm theory:

Human biorhythms are interconnected with our endocrine systems. What should that mean? The article on biorhythms in the famous Encyclopedia Britannica says: Some hormones, for example insulin, are secreted in brief spurts every few minutes. Presumably, the time between spurts is a reflection of the lag time necessary for the insulin-secreting cell to sense a change in blood sugar concentration.

Other hormones, particularly those of the pituitary, are secreted in pulses that may occur at roughly hourly intervals. Apparently, pulsated secretion is a necessary requirement for pituitary gonadotropin secretion. When stimulated at about 80-minute intervals by the injection of a hypothalamic gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH), pituitary gonadotropin secretion increases incrementally to high levels. If, however, gonadotrophs are subjected to a continuous, nonpulsatile injection of GnRH, gonadotropin secretion is completely inhibited.

Superimposed on these pulsatile secretions are, for many hormones, changes in hormonal levels that occur at roughly 24-hour intervals. These periodic changes are called circadian rhythms (colloq. biorhythms).

Biorhythm:

From the day we are born, we are governed by cycles.

The 28-day cycle called the emotional or sensitivity cycle governs one's temperament. The emotional cycle is considered the dominant cycle in women. It regulates emotions, feelings, mood, sensitivity, sensation, sexuality, fantasy, temperament, nerves, reactions, affections and creativity.

The 33-day cycle, called the intellectual cycle, influences our intellect or thinking capacity. The intellectual cycle regulates intelligence, logic, mental reaction, alertness, sense of direction, decision-making, judgment, power of deduction, memory, and ambition.

The 23-day cycle called the physical cycle governs the condition of one's body. The physical cycle is said to be the dominant cycle in men. It regulates hand-eye coordination, strength, endurance, sex drive, stamina, initiative, metabolic rate, resistance to, and recovery from illness. Surgery should be avoided on physical transition days and during negative physical cycles.

At mid point and end point in each cycle, they sharply move back to zero point and change polarity. The day a cycle changes polarity is called a transition day (also called a critical day, or caution day).
Transition days are the days when we may feel a little off, or have a bad day. A double transition day is when two of your cycles transition on the same day. This day may be difficult. A triple transition day is when three of your cycles transition on the same day. Triple transition days are rare, occurring once every 7-8 years.

"Just a thought"-Spreading inspirational thoughts

Just a thought is an inspirational and motivational blog, where you can learn a lot. As it is David Woon, the blogger's reflection about life in general.

The blog was created to share our thoughts, learn and grow together to make this world a better place.

I am quoting here 2 blog posts, which inspired me. One of the post is "Thank your way to Good Health!" and it says:

"Psychologists have discovered that thankfulness has positive effects on our physical, emotional and spiritual well-being.

Whenever I count my blessings and thank God for all of them, my day would somehow be a better one! So remember to be thankful for what you have - it's an easy and FREE way to obtain good health in mind, body and soul!"

For full article: hank your way to Good Health

Anlother post is: "The Character Gauge" and it is about "how do we know if we are growing in character?"

David suggested this answer to this question:

I propose two measures to gauge one's character:

1. Nobody-Centric
Don't be overly impressed by spectacular displays of courage, charity or love - it is difficult to determine the underlying motives of such actions.

One accurate external measure would be to observe how one treats the toilet-cleaner, waiter, sweeper, taxi driver or anyone who obviously isn't an asset in any imaginable way - in short, the nobodies. One can be nice to the handicapped to show off his compassion but it takes one with true character to pardon the clumsy waiter who spills soup on him.

“You can easily judge the character of others by how they treat those who can do nothing for them or to them.” - Malcolm S. Forbes (1919-1990) Publisher

"A person who is nice to you, but rude to the waiter, is not a nice person." - Dave Barry, humor columnist

2. Self-Centric
Believe it or not, most of the time, we act in a certain way to impress people or simply to look "good" in front of people. It is only when we are alone that we exhibit our true character, eg. you wouldn't download illegal materials from the internet in front of your children.

So simply observe what you do when you're alone and you'll get a good idea of the kind of person you really are.

"Our character is what we do when we think no one is looking." - H. Jackson Browne, Writer
"Reputation is what you are in the light; character is what you are in the dark." - American Proverb

Self growth or self development in your own way

The greatest discovery of my generation is that a human being can alter his life by altering his attitudes. ~William James

I believe that self development is a process, which should be continuos. You won't get results in days or weeks, it could take years, but enhancing your personality your way is important in achieving success in life. First step is to discover what you are, what negative and positive treats effet you and your life, how you can get most out of your abilities.

And second step is to be practical, whatever the situation and whatever the place you belong to, you have to do it right now. It is your own responsibility to do it on your best way. I am quoting here a piece of quotation from a web site:

Do Something - Take Responsibility
A man distraught by all the pain and suffering he saw all around him broke down and banged his fists into the dirt.
His head turns upward and he yells at his God.
"Look at this mess. Look at all this pain and suffering. Look at all this killing and hate. God. Oh God! WHY DON'T YOU DO SOMETHING!!"
And his God spoke to him and said
"I did. I sent you."

And to prove that God has given us ability to make us a better human or enhance our personality, some research facts are given here:

Old belief that personality is permanently stamped into our genes is not supported by the recent research. Leading expert in psychology Carol Dweck says "personality can change"

Carol Dweck, studying students at Columbia University, found that those with fixed views about intelligence were primarily focused on proving their smartness and so were less motivated to learn and less likely to take on challenges.

Dweck and her colleagues have shown that "when you change the belief, a lot of important things happen: students' motivation turns around; their grades and test scores go up; managers become better mentors, more successful negotiators."

When children or even adults are taught that abilities and character features can develop and change, they become more resilient to setbacks.

For instance, whether a person views intelligence as a fixed trait or one that can change can greatly impact their "trademark" behaviors. Called fixed or growth mindsets, the two different views of oneself develop early in childhood and can contribute tremendously to personality. "It has a big impact on their motivation and achievement," Dweck said. "It plays a role in business and in social relationships, whether people can solve conflicts, and also whether they can bounce back from failures and rejections."

So change your beliefs with negative thoughts to positive thoughts, as this is the time to do something------------- Self growth your way!

Review of a self understanding and personal development site!

2 Know myself is launched a few months ago, and becoming one of the top 5,000 websites on the web through providing content that can drastically change people's lives is their mission.

What is this website about?

In their own words:
"*This website was intended for the people who don’t want to give up when life gives them a hard time.

* The human being is the ultimate machine, if you know how to use it well; you will be able to take control of your life instead of letting it control you.
* You will be able to succeed under any conditions and you will be able to live a happy life.

* This website aims to help you better understand yourself. The content on this website will guide you through developing yourself in order to get the best out of life and achieve your goals
."

The site provides you tons of information, and it was difficult for me to mention what is special at this site. They have forum at their site, where you can discuss self development topics or your problems. And I like to participate these kind of forums because it is a place where you would get something useful, may be some advice, may be some words of inspiration which can change your life.

After logging in to the site, it took many hours to browse, because to me topics are so appealing that it was difficult to divert my attention. Some of the titles are:

Learn body language, graphology (handwriting Analysis), goal setting, hypnosis, time management, how to be successful in life etc. There is another drop down list about the problems, like as lack of self confidenc, anxiety, depression and many more.

I am linking my post to one of their articles, quoting few words from the article:
Dr Emoto's experiment, The Power of Words:

"Around 70% of your body is formed of water", everybody knows this fact.
Dr Emoto made some tests on samples of four glasses of water.

First glass is a picture showing molecular structure of a normal glass of water,

Beside second glass, some prayer was done loudly,

Beside third glass this phrase was repeated "you make me sick",

And beside fourth glass, some heavy metal was played.

These pictures are showing molecular structure of the water. Difference is that first picture is normal water and others are taken after saying some words, or playing heavy metal music, the change in molecular structure is noticeable.
For full article: The power of words

I hope that people like me, would think about it again and again, how much we are careless about the words we utter from our mouth even thinking about the after effects of our sayings.

Does blogging effects positively the brains of bloggers?

From the day I have started blogging, (It's been a year ago), I can feel a good improvement at my skill level. I can judge it sharply, because I am also an educator.

English is not my mother tongue, and being in blogging, there is a lot of stuff to read and write, and I can feel a distinguished improvement in my written/spoken English.

I love to learn and in blogging, every second/minute I am learning something and applying it to my blogs. I feel like more creative and practical person than before.

It is very interesting to know the effects of blogging, and this post is very informative, inspiring and giving you more reasons to be addicted of blogging. (I am an addict of blogging )

There is a very interesting blog ,which is run by Drs. Fernette and Brock Eide. They are physicians and related to education industry in practice for children with learning differeces.

Their blog has tons of posts, maily on the topics of brain, learning and self improvement. Today's post is about "What effects blogging have on the brains of blogge?"
The whole post is impressive, I am just quoting the points:

1. Blogs can promote critical and analytical thinking.

2. Blogging can be a powerful promoter of creative, intuitive, and associational thinking.

3. Blogs promote analogical thinking.

4. Blogging is a powerful medium for increasing access and exposure to quality information.

5. Blogging combines the best of solitary reflection and social interaction.
